Director of Commercial Operations, Construction Services at Protect Environmental
Greg Lauer is Director of Commercial Operations, Construction Services at Protect Environmental, leading commercial and multifamily radon mitigation strategy and delivery for clients nationwide. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, Greg specializes in large-building system design, multifamily mitigation, and radon-resistant new construction across schools, healthcare facilities, multifamily housing, and commercial campuses. He holds five NRPP certifications and licenses across eight states.
Greg Lauer is Director of Commercial Operations, Construction Services for Protect Environmental, where he leads commercial and large-building radon mitigation strategy and delivery for clients across the United States. Based out of Protect Environmental’s Louisville, Kentucky headquarters, Greg’s work spans multifamily housing, schools, hospitals, long-term care facilities, commercial campuses, and industrial facilities, wherever building owners and operators need radon and vapor intrusion solutions designed for scale.
Greg brings a sophisticated, systems-level approach to commercial radon mitigation: enterprise-scale system design, multifamily mitigation methodology, radon-resistant design integration in new construction, and oversight of performance and verification across complex footprints. He works closely with property managers, developers, architects, environmental consultants, lenders, and risk management teams to align mitigation with operational uptime, occupant safety, and regulatory expectations.
Protect Environmental’s commercial team has completed more than 250,000 projects across all 50 U.S. states and two U.S. territories, supporting healthier indoor environments through testing, mitigation, and system verification. Greg’s leadership ensures that scale translates directly into project quality at the building level.
Commercial and large-building mitigation requires a different playbook than single-family residential. Greg’s approach starts with rigorous diagnostic strategy, understanding the building’s foundation type(s), HVAC behavior, occupancy patterns, and soil gas pathways before a system is ever designed. From there, system design is tailored to each footprint, with verification protocols that account for multiple zones and occupancy profiles.
For multifamily properties specifically, Greg’s NRPP multi-family certifications reflect advanced knowledge of AARST-ANSI measurement and mitigation standards, ensuring systems perform consistently across interconnected soil gas pathways and diverse foundation types.
Greg holds multiple specialized certifications through the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP), the credentialing division of AARST and the recognized authority for radon professional certification in the United States:
Greg also holds active radon professional licenses in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, and West Virginia, and has completed more than 188 hours of training and continuing education, reflecting advanced capabilities in both measurement protocols and mitigation strategies for large, complex properties.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas and the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In large buildings, multifamily units, schools, and care facilities, accurate measurement and mitigation are critical for both occupant health and compliance documentation.
Greg’s commercial expertise covers:
Commercial mitigation projects rarely involve only one party. Greg’s role brings together building owners, property managers, developers, architects, environmental consultants, risk management professionals, and, frequently, lending and financing institutions tied to the property. He tailors solutions that satisfy operational uptime requirements, occupant safety obligations, and regulatory documentation.
On the project execution side, Greg oversees enterprise-scale system design, performance and verification, and project management timed to client closing or occupancy deadlines. The result is mitigation that is technically sound, defensible from a compliance standpoint, and delivered on schedule.
Leads commercial and large-building radon mitigation strategy and delivery for clients nationwide. Oversees enterprise-scale system design, multifamily mitigation methodology, RRNC integration, and performance verification across schools, healthcare facilities, multifamily housing, commercial campuses, and industrial facilities.
Managed commercial radon and vapor intrusion projects, building the operational discipline and stakeholder coordination foundation that scaled into the current Director role.
Brought operational and project leadership experience from the senior living industry into environmental consulting, with a focus on occupant-centered facility management.
Greg leads commercial operations from Protect Environmental’s Louisville, Kentucky headquarters, with project delivery across all 50 U.S. states and two U.S. territories. Commercial and large-building mitigation requires robust diagnostic strategies, system design tailored to complex footprints with multiple foundation types, and verification protocols that account for multiple zones and occupancy patterns. Residential mitigation typically addresses a single foundation and consistent occupancy, while commercial systems must perform across far more variability.
Multifamily properties often have interconnected soil gas pathways and diverse foundation types, requiring layered mitigation design and performance testing to ensure consistency and occupant safety across units. NRPP multi-family certifications (which Greg holds) are the recognized credential for this work, and AARST-ANSI multifamily measurement standards apply.
A Radon-Resistant New Construction (RRNC) approach embeds mitigation pathways and venting plans in the design phase, reducing retrofit costs and improving long-term performance. RRNC is significantly more cost-effective than retrofitting, supports builder compliance with local codes and standards, and protects occupants from day one.
National leader in radon mitigation, vapor intrusion, and indoor air quality. Greg leads commercial construction services from the Louisville HQ, licensed across 8 states.
